Shakespeare for Primary Schools is a huge aspect of the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy’s highly educational programme offered in many of Cape Town’s Schools.
By making Shakespeare fun and accessible, future study in high school will be easy as children will not only have a love of the great Bard’s works but they will also already understand some of the major themes of many of his works.
The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy does not just teach drama for drama sake but children follow a curriculum designed to assist in Academic achievement in schools. Recent studies have show how drama classes taught by professionals can really enhance the success rate of schools.

Bergvliet Primary School is a government run school which provides a broad-based educational experience for children including specialist drama teaching of the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy. This holistic approach has seen the school repeatedly achieve exceptional academic results in standardised tests, showing the stark reality that the arts and other additional activities run by the school really do enhance children’s experience of school in a positive manner.

The Academy has cleverly adapted many of Shakespeare’s works to allow young children the opportunity to use the language and experience the amazing sometime convoluted plots of his plays.
