Athlone gets its own international drama school for children

The children of Athlone are now able to attend the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy’s international drama programme at the Athlone Pre-Primary School hall, Crawford on Wednesday afternoons.

Our amazing teacher, Alastair Kingon, teaches classes for children age 5-18 in different age groups. The programme is designed to bring out the best and natural talent of children. The most important of these is communication skills. Children are taught how to speak well and with confidence - these skills will help them for the rest of their lives.

The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy is one of the Cape Town’s largest community-based drama schools, with over 3,000 children attending classes each week. All teachers are fully trained in the Academy’s international programme, and like the children are continually updated with the latest methods of drama education. The Academy’s teachers have a huge body of acting and teaching experience and this enriches the lives of the children attending.

The Helen O’Grady first started in Cape Town in 1996 and this year celebrates 20 years in South Africa and nearly 40 years worldwide. The Academy also runs its Kindy Programme at Athlone Pre-Primary School during the day.
