‘My child learnt more in this week than in a whole year at school'

The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy’s amazing holiday stage school has just come to another triumphant end with 2 incredible shows at the Magnet Theatre in Cape Town.  Many parents were overwhelmed by what their children achieved. The Musical-in-a-Week concept which Cape Town Principal, Duncan Rice, developed from his experience with Musical Theatre both in UK, Ireland and South Africa.

Duncan Rice says ‘to give children the opportunity to experience the skills of musical theatre in fun-packed educational week, is one of the greatest learning tools we can present to children. Not only to they get expert training in dance, singing and acting but they also learn how to sustain and complete an ambitious project in a week.'

This year the Helen O’Grady Academy’s Holiday Stage School performed the musical production ‘Hood’ by Geoff Bamber.  It was absolutely outstanding and one of the longest and hardest musicals completed to date.

Children from as young as 5 years and as old as 18 can take part in these musical ventures by the Academy.  Unlike many productions, there are no auditions involved and every single child has a main part to play. The Academy believes that everyone has a talent and this talent can be nurtured.

So moved was one parent that she stated ‘My child learnt more in this week than in a whole year at school’.
