The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy has for nearly 10 years been developing musical theatre skills in children in Cape Town. The programme involves children learning how to sing, dance and act with expert teachers in their field. At the end of the week children perform in a variety show for parents and friends. This gives parents an opportunity to see some of the work covered in the classes during the course of the week.
The children are really stimulated during the holidays and this naturally filters into their school work when the new term starts. Arts education for children is holistic, developing particularly the right side of the brain.
This year’s musical stage school focused on the genre of rock musicals, and the children were really inspired by the theme taking it to another dimension.
Thanks go to our wonderful teachers and our Course Director, Sunette Strydom for bringing everything together.
