The famous holiday programme in Cape Town has been training children during the July and December holidays for nearly ten years now. For a number of years now this educational programme has been fully booked because parents have seen how this highly popular programme develops children in musical theatre skills but also is great fun.
Experts in the fields of dance, acting and singing train the children for the stage with a theme. Each child gets an hour of music/singing training, an hour of dance and and hour singing. Last year during the July Holidays the children covered the genre of Opera. There were some amazing performances by the children. This year we will be looking at the theme of Rock Musicals.
At the end of this holiday children’s camp in Cape Town, they get the opportunity to perform in a variety show on the Friday evening from 6-7 pm. This gives an opportunity for parents and friends to see the world covered over this very busy week.
During the December School Holidays in Cape Town, the children get the opportunity to participate in the Academy’s wonderful ‘A Musical in a Week’ concept whereby the children work on a musical and then perform it for friends and family with two showings at the Magnet Theatre in Observatory.
It is quite amazing to see the final production of these children and rehearsing and performing a musical in a week is a unique opportunity. The Academy will be announcing this year’s musical shortly, and, as always promises to be a fantastic time for all.
