Teaching hope and optimism are the cores of Helen O’Grady drama classes in Cape Town

There is no doubt that drama has a deep psychological impact on children, giving them many opportunities to express themselves, understand themselves and become positive people.

The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy’s international programme has been developed with this in mind - realising the innate potential of all children to be confident. Whilst some children can be broken from pushy theatre schools, the Helen O’Grady’s international drama curriculum very carefully builds on their talents and gives them the necessary skills to communicate with confidence.

Principal of the Cape Town Academy, Duncan Rice, says: “There is so much negativity around us in the world. We are constantly bombarded at home, school and the world at large with negativity images and talk. In our fast-moving world. it is important that we train children to think positively and thereby raise their self-esteem and self-belief.”

The Helen O’Grady Drama Academy in Cape Town is one of the largest drama schools in the world and currently have over 3000 children attending class each week in schools and private studios in and around Cape Town.

Parents of the children love the programme for the added value that it brings to their children's lives and their education, and they quickly see this development using the international drama programme together with the fantastically inspired fully trained teachers.

Here you can see the children from our Pinelands studio in dramatic action at the Presbyterian Church Hall on Central Square, opposite the Police Station. The Academy has been running for nearly 10 years in Pinelands with great success. Our wonderful teacher, Heleen, always brings out the best in these children.
