Teaching Shakespeare through acting it is the best way to learn: Spine Road High School show this with a 'Midsummer Night's Dream'
Under the direction of our wonderful teacher, Annemarie Hattingh, the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy, in conjunction with Spine Road High School, in Mitchell's Plain, have been working on the international high school drama curriculum to develop confidence, self-esteem, communication and performance arts skills in children.
Part of this curriculum involves the performance of a Shakespeare play for parents and friends. This is a fantastic experience for the children as they get the opportunity to act out Shakespeare as the bard intended.
One of the important skills we are training children in is commitment to a project. Being part of a play is a huge team effort and if one person lets the others down by not turning up to rehearsals, this can have a knock on effect with the other actors. Showing dedication and determination is the one important trait that we try to teach children through this amazing programme.
