Developing confidence is what drama is about - Children from the Sunningdale Helen O'Grady Drama Classes show this with a magnificent performance
'How the Lion got its Roar' was performed by the 5-8 year-old children from the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy's studio at the Magnet Theatre in Cape Town. Directed by their fantastic teacher, Annemarie Hattingh, these young actors showed how this famous international drama school brings out the best in all children.
Giving children confidence is probably one of the greatest gifts and the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy really does, through its wonderful proactive curriculum, take children to another level of understanding. One of the aims of the Academy is to make the children's experience on stage and enjoyable one so that they start to realise that public speaking and performance can be fun.
In this year's production they were absolutely amazing. Their characterisation, costumes and beautifully strong voices filled the theatre with such joy. This play was very apt as the Academy tries to bring out the natural 'Roar' of all children!
Classes run at the Bowling Club Hall at the Sunningdale Spors Complex on Tuesday afternoons with the following age-groups:
Ages 5-8 years (Grades 1-3) 3-4 pm
Ages 9-12 years (Grades 4-6) 4-5 pm
Ages 13-18 years (Grades 7-12) 5-6 pm (also called our Youth Theatre)
