The meaning behind the famous Helen O'Grady logo ...

Have you ever wondered about the Helen O'Grady Logo. It is packed with meaning about our creative organisation. Drama traces its roots back to early civilisation and this is represented by the Greek tentacles showing the sun. The sun is a representation of the warmth and joy that our organisation gives to people of all ages.

The drama masks are the iconic symbol of the theatre around the world and comes from between 500 and 300 B.C. in ancient Greece.  The masks were originally called Persona:  A persona is a social role played by an actor or character and has its roots in the Latin word.

We believe that drama devoid of emotion is a sad place! This is why we celebrate the work we do with children and adults in our course is to develop characterisation - the comedy and tragedy masks represent this.  Also, one of the key aspects of our curriculum is to developing confidence in people to express emotion and to be a compassionate person in the world in which we live - the happy and sad faces show this.

We don't shy away from emotion - psychologically it is extremely important for us to express our emotions and this way we develop as a person and allow our true personality to shine through. Yes, that's where 'Persona' comes in again! And we are in the business of developing people!

Most importantly, the sun gives us life on earth. We believe, as with the sun, that by giving energy out, we get energy back! That is why our teachers are enthusiastic, passionate people who bring out the best in all our children.

What is more our students love wearing and discussing the tragedy and comedy stage masks relating this iconic logo!
