The collaboration on a drama project is a fantastic means to train children not to give up when the going gets tough. This tenacity can be trained in people by nurturing and guiding by the teacher in a positive working environment.
In the drama classes with the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy we try to help children in many ways to keep going and not give up. One of the amazing skills that they learn is to improvise. Children who are able to act in life with spontaneity are more likely to be adaptable when things become a little more difficult. These children are able to find other ways around the problem and more likely to keep going.
However, the most important aspect, as you will see from these photos, is collaborating on a production. Here the Grade 1 children from Bergvliet Primary are starting out with their drama journey at the school. Putting together a play is a huge joint effort and sometimes, in the initial stages, it can seem that you will never reach the end. However, the end does come in sight, and through the learning of lines, rehearsing together children can realise that through this positive venture, good comes to them all in the end.
Teaching children to persevere in a positive environment will help them to face other challenges in their lives - this is why drama is such an amazing teaching tool for life-skills.
