Primary School Productions should be about inclusivity rather then exclusivity? Is this your experience?

The reason is quite simple. School performances should be about enhancing children's confidence and self-esteem. The more children on the stage, more benefit they will get from this. The collective and supportive experience of being on stage really creates a fantastic opportunity for developing a love for performing and public speaking in children.

The Academy's method of teaching productions is that every child should be on the stage and all have lines to say. The plays are cleverly written for this purpose and this means that all children in each play are main parts and they sing, dance and act with positivity and fun! We therefore rarely have children saying they are scared to perform!

This was so evident at the performance of 'The Old Woman who Lived in the Shoe' by the Bergvliet Primary Grade 3 children. Directed by our brilliant vice-principal, Sunette Strydom, these children performed with such confidence on the stage, showing their excellent communication skills and enthusiasm on the stage!

The Academy runs its international drama programme in schools throughout Africa. To find out more go the website: www.dramaafrica.com
