Child Star? What should acting be about for children?

At the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy we have many children who act in film, television and theatre on a regular basis but we are not a pushy stage school.  So how do we achieve this a as part time drama school? Here you can see our Saturday afternoon drama classes in Cape Town at our Newlands branch demonstrating how this amazing programme works.

ALLOWING CHILDREN TO GROW
The fundamental of good acting coaching is to allow children to grow.  This comes from developing a positive and nurturing environment where all children believe in themselves.

DEVELOPING A VOICE
The programme at the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy puts communication skills at the heart of the programme. There children are trained from an early age how to become clear, articulate and resonant  speakers.

USING THE BODY AS A COMMUNICATION TOOL
The Helen O'Grady Drama Academy has an amazing movement programme to develop flexibility and expression using the body.

THE MIND SHOULD BE FOCUSED AND STRONG
One of the great aspects of this programme is that it teaches children how to be focused on a project. We get many accolades from directors in the performance arts industry saying how easy our children are to work with because they can remain focused on a project for a long time.

LET CHILDREN BE CHILDREN
This is probably one of the fundamentals. Children these days have enough on their plates without us adults expecting more and more from them. We need children time to develop in their own space without us breathing down their backs. These children will quickly flourish and achieve greater things.
