Not only highly educational, drama has a deep psychological base - Goodwood children show how this is the case!

At their annual parents and friends day, the Goodwood students of the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy in Cape Town showed how drama is such a fantastic tool for educational and psychological development.

By doing drama classes, children are able to develop an understanding of who they are. Role-play,  group improvisations and mime are some of the aspects of this international curriculum which help children to more ably to deal with issues, solve problems, resolve conflict, understand themselves and the differences between good and bad behaviour traits.

Catharsis is a term used to describe the psychological healing we undergo through drama, particularly pity and fear. The sense of catharsis is created by acting in real-life situations. In each class our students, week after week, get many opportunities to act in situations of life so that they are much more able to understand and deal with conflict, and resolve issues in a rational way.

Drama classes give children confidence and this was so evident in the performances with our teacher, Dana. To a well adjusted individual has consequences in school academics as well research has shown how children who attend drama classes are more likely to take on leadership roles.
