Brave Student and a Headmaster with a big Heart

One of our students, Roxy Sutton, aged 8, who attends our after-school classes at our Kleinmond studio on Tuesdays, suffers from the rare Crouzonodermoskeletal syndrome, which affects the way her cranial and facial bones grow. She is one of only 18 documented cases worldwide. To date, Roxy has endured a lot of pain and has undergone many complicated operations. Roxy needs to have further complex surgery which can only be performed at one of the few specialist centres abroad.

Gareth Allman, the Headmaster of her school, Applewood Preparatory School in the Elgin Valley, is going to cycle 2100 km from the West Coast to the East Coast of South Africa from the 8th April 2009. This is a hugely generous act on his behalf and the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy would like to offer its support to the warm heart of Gareth Allman in raising funds for Roxy.

Roxy is a wonderful actress in our drama classes and despite the enormous challenges she faces, she is always hugely enthusiastic and is a friendly, kind member of the classes. Our three teachers, Karin Wolff, Brigitte Stephenson and Beatrice Pook, have all expressed the great joy in having such a wonderful girl in their classes.

You can sponsor Gareth per kilometre cycled by going to http://www.wideride.co.za/ or SMS the word 'wideride' to 36070 to make a R5 donation.

We would appreciate all the support given by all our family and friends of the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy.

  1. Here is some additional information about the "genetics" of this condition that was written by our Genetic Counselor and other genetic professionals: http://www.accessdna.com/condition/Crouzonodermoskeletal_Syndrome/109. I hope it helps. Thanks, AccessDNA
