Special needs children show how drama has amazing educational outcomes!

Here you can see the Helen O'Grady Drama programme in action at Oakley House School in Cape Town. This fantastic school really knows how to bring out the best in all its children, and they believe in developing all-round children by offering professional drama training at their school.

This wonderful proactive drama programme helps children to develop quickly, no matter what their specific learning difficulties may be.

The Academy's curriculum is highly effective with dyslexic children helping them to believe in themselves and building confidence. We have found that some of our best actors are dyslexic because they have a great outlet for spoken language work and they therefore love performing on the stage when words on the page can be difficult for them.

Equally children who have ADD or ADHD are stimulated and the focus generated feeds into their general school work. Autistic children are taught skills in communication and socialisation.  The list goes on - drama really does help all children.

At Oakley House School, the children performed snippets from Dr Seuss' poems, which were dramatised by the drama teacher, Heleen, Dana and Michelle. We are so proud of their strong performances and the care that these teachers have shown to these wonderful children. Every child performed with confidence and vigour.
