Attending the Holiday Stage School and then the Christmas Spectacular at the French School today made me reflect about how lucky we all are in this wonderful institution created by the remarkable Helen O'Grady in 1979. Our programme which warms the hearts and spirits of our children is special indeed. Together with dedicated teachers, who bring out all the is best in the children, we see a unique confidence in all the young people in our tender care.

How can one call the empowerment of people a job? This is more privilege. We give our enthusiasm and goodness out to the children and it comes flooding back to us. What greater gift is this during a time when we all think about our families and loved ones?

Newlands Youth Theatre perform 'Murder at Mornington Manor' under the direction of Tronéll Lessing their teacher. This was a fantastic play, and brilliantly acted by this highly talented group of young actors, many of whom who have been with the Academy for many many years. Two long service award were made for students Declan McFarland and Brolin Daniels, who have been at the Academy for 300 lessons, seven and half years. Congratulations to them for this great achievement! Also over 20 students achieved awards for five years with the Academy! Students have to make a speech when they receive their Awards! Just like the Oscars!

With magical Chinese costumes and carefully choreographed movements,these young children really showed how they were able to bring life and colourof this story to the stage. When a greynightingale which was kept in a golden cage to sing to the Emperor was replaced by a magical mechanical bird,the nightingale flew back to the forest but was called back when the mechanicalbird failed. The children sang their songs and danced their hearts out tellingabout how the nightingale’s song was best sung in the forest.

Students from the Youth Theatre in Camps Bay, under the direction of the Academy's wonderful teacher, Niki Hodson, put on a fantastic performance of 'The Pied Piper of Hamelin' to parents and friends at the Theatre in the District in Cape Town. Excellent acting, dancing and singing brought this show alive! Well done to all involved.
