Why drama classes so important for secondary school students. Read more ..

Peer pressure becomes a huge force when children reach the secondary school level. This means conforming and often even confident children lose their voices.  Sometimes going to a new larger high school means that new challenges come a child's way and sometimes the security of a smaller primary school is lost in this new sea of human beings and there are not opportunities for every child to express themselves and their feelings in a constructive and respectful environment for fear of being ridiculed.

The Helen O'Grady Drama Academy's international drama programme is not only about acting but developing good social and communication skills. These are even more important at secondary school level but rarely taught. Having opportunities to interact with each other, role-play and work at complex human interrelations, is part of a good drama programme. Schools that have drama for all students in High School will find that their children are more open and able to solve conflict in a respectful manner.

Drama classes, therefore, have a deep seated psychological base and as acting deals with complex human relationships so a drama programme helps children to understand each other at a much deeper level.

Here you can see our fabulous drama teacher, Annemarie, in action at one of these star schools, Spine Road High School in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town,  which has realised the immense benefit to the children of a programmes that enhance the whole child and not just the academic. This is why this school is fast becoming one of the top schools in the area.
